This past year we have been intentional in visiting other small batch coffee roasters when we travel. Jeff and I took a Saturday and visited several coffee shops in downtown and North Seattle. I will see about starting a Roastmaster Review of the various shops we visit. Here are some snapshots from our coffee adventure the past several months.
I took a class in February from the owners of Water Avenue Coffee Roasters in Portland, Oregon. During my week in Portland, I visitedseveral shops that either roasted on site or had their own roastery. If you get to Portland, these are a few of the shops I enjoyed most: Water Avenue, Coava Coffee, Seven Virtues and Heart Coffee.

Coava Coffee Roasters - (Pronounced cove)

Amazing industrial themed shop that shares space with a bamboo wood shop. Love this concept and enjoyed both a latte and a Chemex here.

On to Heart Coffee...Definitely worth the trip for the drinking chocolate! OMGoodness! Fun, Skandanavian feel with clean lines and white subway tile.

Roastmaster Jeff noticed the sign: Do not disturb the roaster operator. Roasting does require intentional and immense concentration and attention.
